MACHINE HEAD
Supercharger
Roadrunner Records

The latest offering from Machine Head, "Supercharger," brings something a bit unique to the hard rock table while still maintaining those thundering guitars and harsh vocals that are simply necessary in this particular genre.

Machine Head's combination of a raw metal background against melodic vocals is hardly a new idea.  Vocalist and guitarist Robert Flynn's sharply contrasting vocal styles are nothing too innovative either.  However, what Machine Head manages to do is combine all of those backbone ingredients with influences that dabble in punk, hip hop, and even techno.  Supercharger's unique layering of metal and melody with traces of just about everything else thrown in speaks to the band's diversity and depth.

Supercharger is a decent album, no doubt about it.  The riffs and rhythms aren't anything too terribly innovative, but they are solid and done with conviction, not to mention intricately woven with a variety of musical elements for an overall effect that stands out.  Machine Head have produced another solid album in "Supercharger," and will hopefully continue to grow and experiment.
