RED PLANET

Let's Degenerate

Gearhead Records

Not to be confused with one of my Minnesotan favorites, Manplanet, Red Planet are a Californian rock quartet with songs about being youth, drinking, fucking over ex-girlfriends, touring and listening to the classics.  The catch?  Well, they're not quite in their late-teens or early-twenties. Also, they're produced by Kurt Bloch,  the guy from The Fastbacks that's done stellar records for folks like The Supersuckers and Nashville Pussy.

The photos within "Let's Degenerate" display them holding, wearing, referencing or being around memorabilia of the following bands: Van Halen (pre-Hagar), Motley Crue (pre-Vince Neil solo career, Ozzy Osbourne (pre-sobriety), The Rolling Stones (pre-sucking), Cheap Trick (pre-"The Flame") and The Donnas (pre-Donna R. getting married).  They are also surrounded by beer bottles, vinyl and a mess of gear.  Hell fuckin' yeah!

Not all of the record is that cool, but tracks one and two, "Get Back At You" and "Continental Divide," are good starting points for those made interested in the CD by this review.
