GOMEZ
In Our Gun
Virgin Records

Tying their peculiar brand of homegrown funk and low key rock to hippie vibes and post-modern ingenuity, the scruffy five member collective known as Gomez are at it again with their new CD "In Our Gun." Imagine Radiohead dropping ludes with Pearl Jam or Van Morrison fronting the Beta Band. At once both studio bound and blissfully organic "Gun" concocts a thick stew of catchy tunes that abolish the second class citizenry of studio gimmickry to give equal footing to guitar horns and synthesizers with a disc full of locomotive grooves that steam past rocked-out drum circles and peacenik pitter-patter. Producing wobbly, almost casual songs that stretch from baggy house to campfire sing-alongs, these funky groove merchants integrate music's recent past with a gloriously comfortable future.                   John Noyd
