STEREO TOTAL

Stereo Total makes the world feel incredibly and wonderfully small, bringing musical influences and languages from all over the world together in wondterfully tight little albums. Every time I get a new Stereo Total record, I feel a little regret at how this band has grown up and become so sophisticated, only to be knocked out after listening to each new album at how much this quirky duo has grown up and become so sophisticated. While their eponymous U.S. debut was goofy and playful and bordering of hyper-excited karoake music, this new album is so suave and cool just listening to it makes you want to don pink Naugehide and smoke skinny cigarettes. Chanteuse Francoise Cactus's voice is both sultry and geeky innocent at the same time, backed by an assortment of strange instrument samples and keyboards, electric guitars and disco beats, providing a perfect accompaniment to the seven or eight languages she sings in.
