***Permanently Closed, though a new bar "Frets & Friends" is there now While sportscasters like to call Green Bay the "Frozen Tundra" when they talk about the Packers, as if it’s some remote location on the other side of Antarctica, the city (and the surrounding area of Fox Valley) is one of the fastest growing regions in Wisconsin. This means that the live music scene is also expanding and one club that has made a conscious effort to provide a unique venue for entertainment is IQ's. With a guitar-slinging Einstein as its symbol and the tagline, "Everyone has a little genius in them!” IQ's is a singular party destination. As a restaurant in addition to a nightclub, Mondays through Wednesdays IQ’s features a free food happy hour that includes: chili, pizza, hot dogs, meatballs, etc. Their menu offers vegetarian options as well as local and organic items, which makes it above and beyond the usual bar food. Wednesdays are open mic nights that could feature anything from music to spoken word to comedians trying out new material. Thursday kicks off the live music with an acoustic jam. They feature bands (proudly proclaiming no cover charge) every Friday and Saturday night. The bands vary between original and cover artists, with the focus being on rock and jam bands. Some of the local and regional acts that have been recently featured at the club are The Roadhouse Scholars, The Bar Tab Band, and Bonzai McPherson. The club also goes for an eclectic look by supporting local artists and featuring their work. IQ's goes out of its way to foster an environment where local creators can feel comfortable and adventurous. Supporting a variety of live music and a diversity of entertainment, it's a great location for bands to come and get their feet wet playing Green Bay when looking for something a little different than the usual Wisconsin bar scene.
