Few releases have the magic that is found within the delicate interplay between the combined efforts of Ayla Nereo and David Sugalski (The Polish Ambassador).  You will find your mind dancing effortlessly on the dreamy floating folky vocals of Nereo while Sugalski pushes polished downtempo beats into your consciousness. Simple yet breathtaking.

Delicate intricacies and darkened glitches carry the listener through a bleak yet bustling aural fantasy of experimental electronica. Haunting melodies contort into glistening rhythms and distorted associations adjust into a sinister ambiance before launching into an unforeseen eruption of snitter traps and rapscallion ruckuses.

Tikki Masala
Jīvasūvarī
Label: Masala Records

Much like the deep flavors exhibited by the sauce that inspired the band name, this psychedelic candescence of hypnotic ethnic electronica is infused with classical Indian instruments including Sitar, Tabla, Santoor, Sarod, Flute, Tanpura, and Harmonium. Jīvasūvarī means to bring forth a living child in Sanskrit and this release which is activated by contemporary beat magic and underplayed by authentic Indian classical music is viewed as the birth card of the creators beautiful child. What a dish! (10)

Label: Razor & Tie

What began as groovy galloping guitar driven stoner rock has taken nods towards classic heavy rock and added bluesy brambles to their vintage mileage as this Austin, TX band rides across endless highways headed towards often psychedelic horizons with a used future destination.

Beefus
Busted Teeth Fandango
Label: Wavelength Productions

Beefus is a musical collective from Madison, known for their quirks, strangeness and unique perspective. This time around there is more steel, grass and twang (and perhaps inbreeding?) than before, but the lyrical content is still twisted, kitschy and head scratching enough to make even Captain Beefheart proud. Remember, the moon always shines when it’s moonshine!

Twenty One Pilots - Trench

Twenty One Pilots
Trench
Label: Fueled By Ramen

Bands with 2 billion+ hit videos are hard to ignore. That being said, this groups bizarre yet amazingly attractive conflagration of alt rock, hip hop, metal, and singer songwriter swings are often as confounding as they are comforting. But it works! Trench definitely captures their signature sound and approach, but simply isn’t quite as high strung as prior releases. It is still lyrically provoking though and offers a bunch of great songs and potential mega hits.

Label:

Accelerating his unique musical style of amalgamating global snippets formulated from a persistent multi cultural appreciation, SOOHAN’s infectious 7th album, named from the Latin trāns- + mūtō (“change, alter”), uniquely splices kitchy American pop music with regional dance and folk music into bass heavy mixes. His sample heavy electronic experiments are clever and entertaining to listen to, as well as catchy and danceable (if ya wanna get up and shake!)

All the way this. All the way that.
Label: Color Red

With his backing group, The Bump Assembly, Freekbass’ seventh full length album harnesses the funk forward Cincinnati sound and merges it with universal influences from the 70s through tomorrow. This gyrational groove goodness not only shows off the innovative styling of Freekbass including his signature double thumb strumming technique and driving rhythms, but gives him plenty of room to show off wild costumes and vigorous live show. Only Child Tyrant
Time to Run
Label: Nomark

Brash and abrupt, throbbingly angular and obtrusive; found inside of indie, surf and slide, as well as doom and electronic. In what strange world could all of these exist? One that is an alias for mega producer Amon Tobin! Needing an outlet for material that didn’t fit into his other bodies of work Only Child Tyrant was born. These 8 tracks take you in mysterious ways to places you never knew you could get to. Whether bleeping or grinding this will have you wandering but finding.
