I don’t get this. Good quality (well paid?) musicians (including Trevor Dunn) playing the most flaccid, poorly produced alt-pop crap you can imagine. As a bonus, the album cover is forgettable, blaze and unreadable. Wow does this suck!

Tropical feelings pervade when these warm reggae vibrations envelope the melodies and happily bounce along with the wise minded values expressed. Featuring guest musician Pato Banton their jams continue to expand. Hard to believe they are from Wisconsin.

Eli August - I Was Already Too Late

Fermata guitarist (aka Jon Koschorek) simplifies and strikes out on his own. Keeping with the melodramatic and introspective gothic time period music that seem to effortlessly stream from his musical muses, he stalwartly funnels forth a brief splash of somber memories and distant emotions for your inspection.

Disco Biscuits - Planet Anthem

Too many avenues of experimentation and guest musicians water down the overall appeal of this release for me. Their usual amazing jamtronica thrust still feeds familiar aspects but their revisioning here also splinters the output into other frontiers of varying success. Doubtlessly still a great live show though.

Ifdakar - On The Edge

Years of performing at festivals and taverns throughout the Midwest has finally born musical fruit for this Appleton, WI group in the form of this captivating, enthusiastic and heart felt jam rock treat. Many more roads will be traveled and adventures embarked upon as this distinguished and liberating release propells them far and wide.

Mr. Gnome - Heave Yer Skeleton

Distant atmospheres billow, blast and flutter with fuzzy post punk rhythms and floaty female vocals. This lush psychedelic duo produces soliloquies that travel through near pop realms while maintaining an intimate dose of fantasy and artistic creativity. Mr. Gnome will be appearing 4/30 at The Frequency in Madison.

Mike Patton - Mondo Cane

Continuing to push limits, this incredible vocalist who has fronted numerous bands (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, etc) and co-started the Ipecac Record label, finds himself embedded in the midst of an impressive 20 piece orchestra plying his oral delights in Italian. Experimental yet fun, upbeat, cohesive and quite listenable.

Jimi Hendrix - Valleys Of Neptune

Hendrix is an undeniable legend, but this release is just a side note to his legacy. The few actual newly reconstructed songs are mixed with alternate versions of prior released songs. Although it sounds great and it is a great talking point, I am left only partially satisfied while thinking this was mostly for the moola, not the art.

Kazyak - A Beautiful Brontosaurus

Bebobble-deeing between countrified jams and upstart funky rock may show off a classic jam rock band influence, but this friendly and flowing vision utilizes an ambitious combination of elements to create a memorable recording filled with harmony vocals, salient solos and delectable rhythms that are especially admirable for a trio to produce.

Mathew Haeffel - Rhythm Ethics

Haeffel is very serious and hard working Milwaukee musician that can be seen touring regularly throughout Wisconsin and the upper Midwest. His focused professionalism is evident here as he succinctly pours forth his acoustic rock musical soul into this Rhythm Ethics release that he wrote, produced and did the art for.

Strange Arrangements - Polygraph

Effortlessly stringing together progressive elements of jazz, funk, blues, reggae, and psychedellia are what this Chicago jam rock band does so well. Strong main and harmony vocals really shine as the tangy guitar work and zesty rhythms flow through song after song and have the potential to please listeners for years to come.
