Muderdolls - Women and Children Last

After a long eight year hiatus, Slipknot’s Joey Jordison and Wednesday 13 bring us another load of crass, vulgar, and pissed off metal. Although heavy, the sound here harkens more to the days of glam, sleaze, and alcohol drenched fret boards. As a bonus, two tracks feature guest guitarist Mick Mars of Motley Crue.

Shye Ben Tzur - Shoshan

Shye ben Tzur is a Hebrew Qawwali singer that has been busy cultivating mystical experiences into contemporary songs. “Shoshan” is a successful experiment employing Hebrew poetry with Flamenco guitars, plus soaring Rajastan vocals in addition to the flavorful Indian and Afro rhythms. The music sways from trance to ecstatic while retaining its open awareness and devotional nature.

Love at first riff? From the very moment I put this in the player, the silky smooth organic rocktronica created by this experimental trio caressed my musical g-spot. The flowing and dreamy instrumentals are comprised of curious guitars, murmuring and enticing jazzy rhythms and patches of blissful ambience. All played on real instruments. No samples, loops or MIDI here. The highly versatile crew creates in other interesting ways including organs, electric bass and harpsichord plus instruments and devices of their own design.

Dub Is A Weapon - Vaporized

Dub is known for being the music of producers but not live performers. Antibalas’s guitarist and dub mastermind Dave Hahn has managed to create a fabulous dub release as well as forge a live unit capable of extracting the style from the studio and playing it live thanks to his masterful knob twirling techniques and ear for detail.

OMC is the brainchild of Johan Sandqvist. Born in Sweden, but transplanted to LA, he brings us an EP of bubbly dreamy soundscapes flowing with cascades of electronic mysteries and marvels.

The musical magic displayed here taunts the riddles of nature, and it’s forces through abstract classical compositions in an effort to teach us about ecology and potential self preservation. Mysterious and beautiful, while haunting and perplexing, these experiments delve into a variety of world and etheric patterns, benefitting from the companion video.

Keyboards unabashedly take the forefront of this psychedelic prog-metal experience. Expanses of whirling grooves hook the listener with a demanding intensity that is unfurled with each breathtaking riff and blast.

Big Swede - BS in Da Club

A double disc dose of well motivated and well blended house, Euro, and trance music from Grammy nominated DJ/composer/producer/engineer/multi-instrumentalist Stefan “Big Swede” Svenson. The throbbing beats are expertly matched with some great samples for an effective aural assault. (8)

Cee-Lo Green - The Ladykiller

Cee-Lo Green has become a musical hero of mine. His style, talent, and incredibly smooth voice stand out from all others. As the vocalist for the amazing Gnarls Barkley, he caught my attention. Now in solo form, he delivers a smashing release containing the infectious viral hit “Fuck You” (and the censored version “Forget You”) which has received millions of hits on YouTube. The remainder of the album shines with a timeless soul groove that is filled with layers of flavors and tip to hip-hop happiness.

Joey Fehrenbach - Don’t Wake Me

Strikingly beautiful downtempo electronica, filled with comforting melodies and an effortless appeal. Discerning himself from solo artists with a band name by simply utilizing his actual name, this Arizona based musician undeniably has the songwriting skills to make his name memorable as his musical already has become.

Mr. Hunter - The Awakening

An EP from a Hoboken, NJ outfit that pours forth pretty straightforward improvisational type jam rock, set apart by female vocals and a spunky spirit.

Pickpocket Ensemble - Memory

Approaching folk music from an urban acoustic perspective, weaving in time worn subtleties and nuances of world café, while managing to engage the listener fully with a depth and perspective all their own.
