Here it is, our 13 Year Anniversary Issue!  The Lucky 13, and it feels like we’re just getting started.

First, Bomblastica 2009: A Party for the People! Bud Light presents Max Ink’s 13 Year anniversary party, a night of beer, food entertainment and fun. Our own homegrown indoor music festival will feature two nights of music at the Annex in Madison. Free admission all night with free beer and food starting at 8pm till it’s gone.

Friday, March 20 will feature the blues of Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo (funky blues), God’s Outlaw (outlaw country, Johnny Cash), Sue DaBaco and Wise Fools (Wisconsin’s representative at the International Blues Challenge) and Joel Pingitore and the Playground of Sound (hard rock-blues ala Hendrix/SRV). Food by Tex Tubb’s Taco Palace on Madison’s east and west side.

Saturday, March 21
is jam night starting with Elf Lettuce (blues/roots hippy jams), Milwaukee’s The Buggs (featuring Max Ink’s Lane Klozier, all Beatles punk-style), V05 (Madison’s 10 piece classic 70’s disco band) and the legendary Donk Floyd (El Donk doing Pink Floyd, Doors and Bowie covers). Food will be served by the Willy Street Coop.

Both nights we’ll be giving away Summerfest tickets as well as collecting donations for SaveKensLegs.com, to benefit Ken Adell, a Madison native who’s quadriplegic inconveniences aren’t necessarily covered by our nation’s health care system. Read more at his website.

Phil Gnarly and the Tough Guys: Madison’s The Frequency will play host to a 25th anniversary reunion of Phil Gnarly’s band and the Rude Horns on April 4th.  Starting in 1984, Phil’s band recorded with Butch Vig at the early Smart Studios, toured the east coast a few times, enjoyed a little underground fame and drank a lot of beer. Their indie-rock-a-billy sound can still be heard at MySpace.com/PhilGnarlyandtheToughGuys.

Maximum Ink’s website has been nominated for an international award in the category of DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH by UK’s Metal Hammer magazine. There are some big players in the mix including Blabbermouth, Metal Sludge and NoneLouder. Comments and feedback left about Max Ink’s site will be a factor in determining the winner to be announced in April. Go to: Maximumink.com/MetalHammer to get right to the nominee page.

Adventures With Elizabeth: You know your daughter is growing up when she comes home from school with diagrams of human reproduction organs. Yep, they teach that in fifth grade now, it’s called Human Growth and Development class. Elizabeth and her classmates have aptly renamed the class “Horribly Gross and Disgusting.”
