Summerfest officials have announced Admission Promotions for 2009, providing low or no-cost alternatives to paying the full gate price at this year’s festival.  All exchanges, unless otherwise stated, will take place at the Mid-Gate promotions tent located across the street from the Summerfest Mid-Gate. All Admission Promotions start at Noon and run while ticket supplies last OR through 3:00 pm, whichever comes first, unless otherwise noted.  Patrons can also visit Summerfest.com for complete details on all Admission Promotions.

New in 2009, the first 5,000 patrons who enter the Summerfest gates on select dates will receive a complimentary item as an added value. All Gate Giveaway items are while supplies last.

Thursday, June 25 is Stomp Out Hunger Day with FOX 6.  All patrons arriving between Noon and 3:00 pm who donate three (3) non-perishable food items will receive one (1) FREE admission ticket!  Donations will be accepted at the Mid-Gate promotions tent as well as the North Gate.  All donations will benefit the Hunger Task Force.

GATE GIVEAWAY - On Thursday, June 25, the first 5,000 patrons will receive one (1) co-branded U.S. Cellular®/Summerfest Window Cling with special service and accessory offers, compliments of U.S. Cellular® and Summerfest.  The giveaway starts at 5:00 pm while supplies last.

Friday, June 26 is Cedar Crest “Flip your Lid at Summerfest” Day from Noon – 3:00 pm or while supplies last.  The first 1,500 patrons will receive one (1) FREE admission ticket at the Mid-Gate promotions booth when they turn in a lid and receipt from Woodman’s or Sendik’s Food Markets, dated June 1 – June 26, for the purchase of one (1) 48 oz. Cedar Crest ice cream.  No copies or handwritten receipts will be accepted.

Friday, June 26 is Time Warner Cable Customer Appreciation Day.  Present your Time Warner Cable Summerfest bill stuffer at any ticket window from Noon – 3:00 pm and you may purchase one Adult weekday admission ticket and get one FREE!

GATE GIVEAWAY - On Friday, June 26, the first 5,000 patrons will receive one (1) co-branded guitar shaped DeVry University/Summerfest Key Chain compliments of DeVry University and Summerfest.  The giveaway starts at 5:00 pm while supplies last.

Wednesday, July 1 is Johnsonville & Pick ‘n Save/Copps Partyville Day from Noon – 3:00 pm or while supplies last.  The first 2,000 patrons who show their receipts from any Pick ‘n Save or Copps Food Centers that specify the purchase of two (2) Johnsonville Party Packs (fresh Brats or Italian sausages) at the Mid-Gate promotions tent will receive one (1) FREE admission ticket.  Receipt must be dated between June 14 and July 1.  No copies of receipts will be accepted.

Wednesday, July 1 is Wisconsin Lottery Discount Day from Noon – 3:00 pm.  Purchase an $8 adult admission ticket for only $3 ($5 savings) by presenting a non-winning Wisconsin Lottery Summerfest instant scratch ticket at any window.  One discounted admission per lottery ticket, per person.

Thursday, July 2 is Northwestern Mutual “Make a Child Smile Day” from Noon – 3:00 pm or while supplies last.  The first 1,500 patrons who donate any new, indoor children’s toy, book, art supplies or children’s G or PG rated DVD movie with a $5 minimum value will receive one (1) FREE admission ticket:  All books donated will benefit the Next Door Foundation’s Books for Kids program.  All other items collected will be used throughout the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin system.  All items must be new with original tags attached and/or original packaging.

Thursday, July 2 is H.O.G.®  Day from Noon – 3:00 pm.  Patrons will receive one (1) FREE admission ticket when presenting a valid H.O.G.® (Harley Owners Group®) card at the tent located on the northwest corner of Chicago Street and Harbor Drive.  One admission ticket per card, per person.

KISS TO HEADLINE MARCUS AMPHITHEATER DURING SUMMERFEST ‘09

Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. officials are excited to announce the final Marcus Amphitheater show slated for Summerfest 2009.  KISS will headline on Saturday, June 27 at 7:30 pm.

The brainchild of members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, KISS was founded in New York City in the early 70s.  Known for their eccentric costumes, makeup and elaborate stage show, the band quickly became a favorite among American teenagers. Their hard rock sound proved to have multigenerational appeal as well.

Some of the band’s hit singles include power ballads like “Beth” and “Forever,” along with the rock anthem “Rock ‘N Roll All Nite.” The June 27 performance will include original members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, as well as Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer, all in full makeup and costume.  This performance is one of only two concert dates the band currently has scheduled in the U.S. in 2009.

Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, May 26 at Noon and will be available for $72.00 (Red), $62.00 (Yellow), $47.00 (bench) and $27.00 (lawn).  All prices include Summerfest admission.  Tickets can be purchased at the Marcus Amphitheater Box Office, Ticketmaster Ticket Centers, online at Ticketmaster.com and by phone at 1.800.745.3000 (live Ticketmaster Agent) or 1.866.448.7849 (“Ticketmaster Express” automated phone line).  Patrons may also utilize “ticketfast” at Ticketmaster.com to print bar coded concert tickets from home.  Convenience fees may be added to all purchases.

Summerfest officials today announce the lineup of headliners slated for the M&I Classic Rock Stage with Fiduciary Management, Miller Lite, 97.3 The Brew & My 95.7 during Summerfest 2009.  The M&I Classic Rock Stage is located at the south end of Henry Maier Festival Park, and will be repositioned within the same area this year to allow for a larger capacity and improved traffic flow in and around the area.

In conjunction with its Big Backyard Stage at Summerfest, Briggs & Stratton hosted a “Battle of the Bands” site on MySpace, encouraging music enthusiasts from around the world to enter the competition. The winning band will perform live at Summerfest at the Big Backyard on Sunday, June 28.  Over 750 bands entered the contest, and the public can vote for their favorite band from May 16 to June 7 at www.briggsbattleofthebands.com.

Summerfest officials today announce the lineup of headliners slated for the U.S. Cellular® Connection Stage with Leinenkugel’s and FM 102.1 during Summerfest ’09.  The stage will once again prove to be a primary attraction for new and alternative music as well as interactive entertainment technology.

BOB DYLAN TO HEADLINE MARCUS AMPHITHEATER DURING SUMMERFEST 2009

Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. officials are excited to announce the ninth show slated for Summerfest 2009.  Bob Dylan will headline the Marcus Amphitheater on Wednesday, July 1 at 7:30 PM along with special guest Willie Nelson.

Dylan, a musician and songwriter for over five decades, has influenced numerous genres of music and multiple generations.  A pioneer in the folk-rock and country-rock genres, his unconventional voice redefined the role of vocalist in popular music.  Many of his songs, like “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “The Times They are a Changin’,” have become timeless classics.  His most recent album, Together Through Life will be released April 28. 

As a songwriter and performer, Willie Nelson has become a country music icon.  His music is influenced by Western swing, jazz, country, honky tonk, rock & roll, folk and blues, creating a distinctive, elastic hybrid.  Some of his many hits include “Always on My Mind”, “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” and “Highwayman.”

Tickets for Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson will go on sale Saturday, May 2 at 10 AM and will be available for $59.50 (Red), $49.50 (Yellow), and $37.00 (bench). A limited number of bar-coded wristbands for free, general admission lawn seats will be available the day of the concert for this show.  The wristbands will be issued in the forecourt of the Marcus Amphitheater on a first-come, first-served basis the day of the show to patrons who have obtained admission to the grounds.  Patrons must obtain admission to Summerfest in addition to any free general admission lawn ticket.

Wilco will kick off tour at Milwaukee's Pabst Theater

Wilco to Kick Off 2009 Tour at Milwaukee’s Pabst Theater, Release Concert DVD and new CD

Wilco have announced their first North American tour dates of 2009. The tour commences April 14 at the Pabst Theatre in Milwaukee, WI, making additional stops in Bloomington, IN, Athens, OH, Knoxville, TN, Athens, GA, Asheville, NC, Birmingham, AL, Oxford, MS. It culminates on April 25 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. After a May tour of Spain and Portugal the Chicago band return to the States for more touring, including a spot on this year’s Bonnaroo bill in Manchester, TN on June 11 – 14. Complete tour dates are listed below and updated regularly in the “shows” section of the band’s official website, wilcoworld.net.

Nonesuch Records will release the band’s new concert DVD, Ashes of American Flags, on Saturday, April 18 at independent retailers nationwide as part of national Record Store Day. The DVD will also be available on that day from wilcoworld.net and nonesuch.com. A broader release through iTunes, Amazon.com and chain retail outlets will follow on April 28. The band is presently working in their Chicago loft on a new studio album, which is tentatively scheduled for a June release. The as-yet-untitled work is the follow up to 2007’s Sky Blue Sky.

Ashes of American Flags is produced and directed by Christoph Green and Fugazi’s Brendan Canty and shot in five quintessentially American venues- Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, OK, Tipitina’s in New Orleans, LA, The Mobile Civic Center in Mobile, AL, The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN and the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. Mixing live concert footage with band interviews, it takes the viewer behind the scenes of Wilco’s 2008 U.S. tour capturing both the
expansive experience of rolling across America in a tour bus and the intimacy that happens night after night between the members of Wilco and the music they make, and between the band and their fans who come to experience it with them.
