For 38 years, The Association of International Photography Art Dealers, (AIPAD), has been presenting NYC annual exhibition called The Photography Show. Their current location is Pier 94 on 12th Ave at 55th Street, which affords lots of space and a bar with eating area. Featuring more than 85 prominent photography galleries from throughout the country, this is the biggest show of its kind. Myriad genres are on display, including contemporary, modern, nineteenth-century and photo-based media. There are also talks given by photographers and artists.

The music based photos are especially of interest to me, such as the one of Patti Smith in the early 1970’s here taken by a college friend of hers, Frank Stefanko. Smith would later recommend Stefanko to fellow New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen, which would yield two record covers for Springsteen, that being Darkness On The Edge Of Town in ‘78 and The River in ‘80.

Genesis Publications’ booth is a stop I make. A premiere arts based book company, this British publishing company was founded in 1974 by Brian Roylance, who had been a student of the London College of Printing. His goal was to create a company in the traditions of the private press, with an emphasis on the arts of printing and book binding. Currently led by his son and daughter, Nick and Catherine Roylance. The company produces signed, limited edition books that are created in close collaboration with authors and artists, mainly regarding music and culture. Genesis ships books to collectors in over 50 countries. Approximately 100 signed limited editions have been created with renowned and varied authors. Their editions are featured in the collections of the world’s finest libraries, including New York Public Library’s Rare and Fine Printed Book Department.

Authors and contributors who have participated in Genesis limited editions include Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Ringo Starr, David Bowie, Pete Townshend, Yoko Ono, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Sir George Martin, Sir Peter Blake, Sir Roger Moore, Michael Palin, Ravi Shankar, as well as sporting icons such as Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Brian Lochore and Michael Owen.

Richness such as this makes AIPAD is a must see for any photography buff. Check them out at https://www.aipadshow.com/
