It may be a mere two song demo of the Sauk Prairie metal group My Fair Share, but what a glorious ruckus these guys make!”Society’s Punishment” comes out blasting the statement “We will rise above” in a Sabbath/Pantera crunchy riff fashion. “Burning Alive” shows more originality and melody, but with the same aggressive attitude. For a young band, My Fair Share shows promise for many years of moshing madness to come.

Hard rocking Madisonians know the name Don Bakken as one of the guitarists in the legendary Last Crack band, but here Bakken strikes out on his own with a 12 song self titled independent release. Intense drumming by Jeff Grieshammer drive the songs, but Bakken’s searing lead guitar work and strong vocals define this crisp recording which was engineered at Minnesota’s Pachyderm Studios. This CD proves there’s definitely life after the Last Crack…

The most unique band in this Mini-Review 3-Pack is from Rockford, IL. An artsy duo, The Moment’s “We Are The Plague” has everything from Fugazi-type screamo grooves to transcendental ambience. Eliott Porter’s creative programming and drum work lay the foundation for these eight diverse compositions, but guitarist/vocalist P.J. Heckinger makes the tunes rock. I also really dig the CD’s minimalist packaging and medieval artwork.
