Madison native Alicia Lemke (Alice and the Glass Lake)
This issue is dedicated to the memory of Alicia Lemke. To me, Alicia was the little sister of longtime Max Ink writer Brett Lemke. Brett came to Max Ink at around 20 and Alicia was a bit younger than him, and surely not a blues nut like him. After many years Brett went off to California to pursue education and music opportunities while Alicia graduated from West High School and attended Pennsylvania’s Swarthmore College for biology and music theater. Music won her over and she then attended the Berklee College of Music. She later moved to New York City where she played shows and developed as a singer and songwriter. She made many friends in the music industry and recorded as the artist known as Alice and the Glass Lake.
Alicia passed away 2 years ago after a long battle with leukemia, and throughout her treatments worked to finish the songs for her album, “Chimaera,” with the help from her family and friends.
Last month, rapper Eminem relased the album “Revival” and Alicia is featured in the song “Revival (Interlude)”. The album is expected to reach #1 on the Bilboard 200 album charts. Congratulations Alicia, you are a rock star!
Rökker Rye Whiskey: What was a rumor last month is now reality. Rökker Rye Whiskey is official and will start to flow into liquor stores and bars in January. Of course, you must ask for it, so spread the word at your nearest watering hole, grocer or liquor store.
I’d love for you to come to Yahara Bay Distillery on January 26th for the RELEASE PARTY! We have the local blues band Mannish Boys playing live from 7:30-9:30pm and munchies at 6pm from Thirsty Goat and a custom cake from Metro Market. Sample, nosh and groove to some blues. See ad for more details.
