The industrial metal band, 16 Second Stare recently released their second album 16 Second Stare on Goomba Music. Frontman Chris Davis steps out from behind the drums and is joined by guitarist Tim Shanks, Brando Foor on drums, and Ryan Hand on bass to provide a sound that is often called..angry. The band will be hitting the road in support of their sophomore album with the 16 Second Models (girls in fishnets and heels that introduce the band and hang out with fans) in tow. I recently caught up with Chris Davis and Tim Shanks to see what the band is up to next.

Maximum Ink: Who are some of the artists that have influenced the 16 Second Stare sound?
Chris Davis: We were influenced by some of the hard rocking bands like Pantera, Marylin Manson, Sevendust, Metallica, Mudvayne, Avenged Sevenfold, White Zombie and KoRn to name a few.

MI: At what age did you know this was what you wanted to do? What do you think you’d of been if not a musician?
CD: At the age of 4 when my dad gave me a drum set. I honestly think if I wasn’t involved in music in some way, I would die.
Tim Shanks: I knew I wanted to be a musician since the age of 12, but if I didn’t become a musician I would be an administrator.

MI: Where does the name 16 Second Stare come from?
TS: It’s really what ever you want it to be. Our take on it you really can’t say it’s not for family viewing. It’s not exactly a principle answer for our take.

MI: You where also a drummer. What made you decide to try your hand at singing? Do you ever miss drumming?
CD: I am too pretty to be hidden behind all those drums and cymbals but sometimes I do miss drumming. I still do it when we’re not touring for fun.

MI: Why is Tim called “Angry Tim”? Just, curious.
TS:  Because I am a pretty intense person, but a very likeable guy not angry really too often.

MI: How does this album differ most from your debut album?
CD: This album is way more fuckin’ aggressive than our debut album “Red Carpet Material.” It’s more in your face and powerful.

MI: What do you like to do in your spare time?
CD: What spare time? (Ha Ha) we are always on the road and working on our music.
TS: Travel and chill out at the band house, write music.

MI: What was it like to perform at Cruefest 2?
CD:  It was an honor to be able to perform with other kick ass bands on that tour; and the parties weren’t too shabby either!
TS: It was a great learning experience and the best summer camp I ever been too.

MI: Do you prefer to play to larger or smaller crowds?
CD: Any crowd is a great crowd! We don’t care if there are 15 people or 15,000 people as long as their having a good time!
TS: I prefer larger, the crowd’s energy is infectious. So why not get as many infectious mother fuckers in one spot.

MI: What can fans expect from the live show?
CD: What can fans expect from our live show, well expect a sick hangover with a massive EARGAZM!!!!
